PETALING JAYA: Amanah members have been urged by Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu to refrain from speculating on the successor of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub. Instead, Mohamad, the Amanah president, emphasized the importance of focusing on winning the upcoming state elections.
Mohamad urged the party leadership and all members to give their full attention to managing the election machinery in the six states involved. He stated that discussions regarding Salahuddin’s replacement would take place with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after the elections.
Furthermore, as the Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Mohamad pledged his full commitment to working on the ground with the election machinery. He stressed the significance of their responsibility in ensuring the success of candidates under the unity government.
Mohamad cautioned against being swayed by external parties and requested that Amanah members refrain from getting incited on the issue of Salahuddin’s replacement. He assured that the party leadership would handle matters related to succession and the party’s future according to the rules and norms of the party.
Salahuddin, aged 61, passed away on Sunday (July 23) at 9.23pm at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar. He had undergone surgery for a brain haemorrhage the previous day. Salahuddin served as the Amanah deputy president, Pulai MP, as well as the domestic trade and cost of living minister.
