SEREMBAN: Parti Amanah Negara should be allowed to contest the Lenggeng seat in the state polls on Aug 12, but will respect any decision made by Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, according to Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

The president of Amanah said the party is ready to contest the seat, which he considers “winnable”.

“We want to contest the seat, but we will listen to what our chairman (Anwar) has to say. So far, he hasn’t informed me about anything,” he said during an event organized by the National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) here.

Mohamad stated that he will have a meeting with leaders from parties in the unity government on Friday night (July 21), and a decision will be made.

“Whatever decisions (on seat distribution) are made by Anwar and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (chairman of Barisan Nasional), will be final.

“Amanah will make a final appeal (on Lenggeng), and let’s see what the outcome will be,” he said.

On Wednesday (July 19), Negri Sembilan Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abdul Rahman requested the support of the Pakatan presidential council to defend the seat.

He stated that this is crucial, considering Umno’s claim that its candidate would represent the unity government in the constituency won by Amanah in the 2018 General Election.

He also mentioned that Amanah has been a loyal ally to Pakatan and should not be neglected.

On July 15, the deputy president of Umno, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, announced that Barisan would contest in 17 seats in the state election.

These seats include the 16 seats they won in the last general election, as well as Lenggeng.

In the 2018 polls, Amanah won the seats of Lenggeng, Paroi, and Klawang.
