KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here has granted actress Amelia Henderson’s application to stay an order requiring her to issue a public apology to film and drama producer A.Aida for breaching a contract. Judge Zulqarnain Hassan used his discretion to allow the application, pending Amelia’s appeal against a ruling that she pay over RM200,000 in damages to A. Aida for breaking a filming contract. “The court granted the application for a stay of an order to issue a public apology and to take down videos containing elements of defamation which were posted on her Instagram page,” said Judge Zulqarnain during online proceedings on Wednesday (Aug 2). The judge also allowed a stay of the order for Amelia to pay RM213,245 in damages to A. Aida, but stipulated that the money be deposited into a joint account managed by the legal firms representing both parties. In April, the Sessions Court ruled that Amelia must pay RM213,245 in compensation to A. Aida for breaching the contract of a drama series called ‘Sekali Lagi Cinta Kembali’ last year. The court also granted A.Aida Production Sdn Bhd’s application for an injunction prohibiting Amelia from repeating or spreading defamatory words about the company. On April 18, Amelia filed an appeal against the Sessions Court’s decision, and the High Court is scheduled to hear the matter on October 24. Representing A.Aida Production Sdn Bhd in today’s proceedings was lawyer Ashmadi Othman, while lawyer Mansheel Kaur represented Amelia. A.Aida Production initiated the lawsuit against Amelia on July 28 last year after she withdrew from filming the drama at the last minute. – Bernama
