Caretaker Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari intends to pursue legal action against Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for his recent speech in Jitra, Kedah.
Amirudin reviewed the speech given by his Kedah counterpart during the Jelajah Mega PN Best Sayangi Kedah Sejahtera, held at Dataran Darul Aman, in Jitra. He believes the speech contained slanderous remarks and was an attempt to divert attention away from the rare earth elements (REE) scandal.
Amirudin firmly denied all the allegations made by Muhammad Sanusi, a prominent leader of Perikatan Nasional.
“In fact, I extensively addressed this matter during a state assembly meeting in Selangor last year and the Parliament meeting on March 1, 2023,” stated Amirudin.
He further mentioned that he has consulted with his lawyer and will initiate legal proceedings against Muhammad Sanusi for defamation next week.
Amirudin is believed to be referring to Muhammad Sanusi’s accusations regarding a Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated project that allegedly would have caused significant financial losses to the state.
On the other hand, Berjaya Land Bhd has actively refuted all the allegations made by Muhammad Sanusi concerning the development company’s involvement in the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project.
Syed Ali Shahul Hameed, the group chief executive officer of Berjaya Land, labeled the claims made in Muhammad Sanusi’s speech on August 2 as “politically motivated and defamatory.”
He announced that the company has lodged a police report and will take legal action to safeguard its rights in this matter.
“Berjaya Land has noticed that Sanusi’s speech contains statements that are false, baseless, and deliberately misleading, aimed at tarnishing the company’s reputation, directly or indirectly, regarding the SMG Project,” Syed Ali Shahul said in a subsequent statement.
He added that Muhammad Sanusi’s remarks were intended to portray both Berjaya and the Selangor government negatively, creating an impression of questionable dealings between the two parties regarding the project.
“To set the record straight, we feel it is crucial to provide accurate and verified information,” Syed Ali Shahul stated in the statement, which also included point-by-point clarifications to refute the claims made by Muhammad Sanusi.
Berjaya Land also called on the public and media to continue supporting their “genuine efforts” in rehabilitating the Klang River, along with their joint venture partner in the Selangor state.
