PETALING JAYA: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has filed a defamation suit against his Kedah counterpart Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Amirudin’s lawyer, Haijan Omar confirmed that the suit was filed at the Shah Alam High Court on Wednesday (Aug 30) with a copy of the cause papers handed over to the defendant, according to Malay daily Sinar Harian.

Haijan said that a copy of the writ of summons was also submitted to Muhammad Sanusi’s lawyers Messrs. Faizi Associates.

“We have already filed a certain procedure and will enter a memorandum for the defence and we are also asking for an injunction that will be made in other proceedings.

“The court set October 3 for case management,” Sinar Harian reported him saying as reported by another portal on Thursday (Aug 31).

Amirudin claimed Muhammad Sanusi had defamed him by linking him to a land deal involving Tan and his company Berjaya Land Bhd.

In the writ of summons, Amirudin as the plaintiff is demanding unspecified general, aggravated and exemplary damages from the defendant, as well as an injunction order to prevent Muhammad Sanusi from repeating the allegations.

Previously on Aug 4, Amirudin announced that he would be taking legal action against Muhammad Sanusi for defamation.

Muhammad Sanusi made the remarks during the Jelajah Mega PN Best Sayangi Kedah Sejahtera held at Dataran Darul Aman, in Jitra recently.

Tan and Berjaya Land Berhad recently demanded an apology and filed a RM200mil suit against Muhammad Sanusi over the remarks.

On Aug 9, Amirudin’s legal team delivered a demand letter to Muhammad Sanusi asking the defendant to apologise within 48 hours and pay RM10mil in damages.
