KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor, a vital contributor of 25.5% to the national economy, should not be treated as an experimental ground, warns the caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He cautioned that any failure by the Selangor government would have a significant impact on Malaysia’s economy.
“We must deliver results on the economic front for post-pandemic recovery and to aid Malaysia. Selangor deserves continuity given our success stories,” he said during a talk at the Concorde Club forum.
The Concorde Club, led by Star Media Group adviser Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, is an informal group of editors and senior journalists that engage with politicians and policymakers.
Discussing the sedition charges against Kedah caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, Amirudin emphasized that government leaders should clarify the issue to the public.
While some groups claim the charges are politically motivated, it is undeniable that the Kedah leader insulted the Selangor Royal Institution.
“This is not a political matter. He crossed the line by insulting and undermining the Selangor Royal Institution, although he attempts to portray it politically for sympathy votes,” said Amirudin.
“We have a responsibility to explain to the people that the charges are based on insulting the royal institution and hold no political agenda,” he added.
