The area around Jaya Industrial Park, Ara Damansara in Petaling Jaya, which had been closed off due to an ammonia gas leak at an ice factory, has now been reopened, according to Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid. The reopening came after pollution index readings returned to normal levels at 5.30pm on Wednesday (Oct 25).
“Periodic monitoring will continue to be carried out by Petaling Jaya police mobile patrol vehicles,” stated ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid. The police had initially closed off an area of about 400 sq m due to pollution index readings exceeding 200 particles per million (ppm), with 240ppm inside the factory and around 200ppm in the surrounding area.
The incident was reported to the police via a MERS 999 call at 10.17pm on Tuesday (Oct 24), after which 27 firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene to assist.
