PETALING JAYA: An ammonia gas leak at the ice factory in Taman Perindustrian Jaya has prompted the authorities to cordon off a 400m area as a safety precaution. The incident occurred around 10.17pm on Tuesday, and the fire and rescue department was immediately called to the scene. The Petaling Jaya OCPD confirmed that no one was injured, but the public has been advised to stay away from the area until further notice.
Assistant director of Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, revealed that the cause of the gas leak has been identified. A continuous operation is underway to dilute the ammonia gas before it is released into the atmosphere. The gas readings at the premises currently measure at around 240 parts per million, but the levels outside the building are much lower. Fire and rescue personnel will remain at the location to maintain control of the situation.
OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid urged individuals in the vicinity who experience symptoms such as nausea or vomiting to contact the police immediately and seek medical attention at the nearest hospital. Additionally, motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and avoid the area until clearance is given to prevent any untoward incidents from occurring.
