MORE Indonesians are anticipated to travel to Johor subsequent to the introduction of the Jakarta-Johor Baru route by Indonesia-based TransNusa Airline.
The chief executive officer of Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB), Kennedy Ayu, stated that the airline’s service would offer air travelers additional options.
“We expect that the new route will entice more Indonesians to seek medical treatment at private hospitals, particularly in Johor Baru,” he said when encountered at Senai International Airport to greet the inaugural flight from Jakarta.
Kennedy highlighted that Johor also possesses the potential to attract Indonesian golfers as the state is home to more than 20 golf courses.
He emphasized that the airline selected Johor Baru as its second international destination after Kuala Lumpur.
TransNusa Airline operates one daily round trip from Jakarta, departing at 12.30pm (Indonesian time) and arriving in Johor Baru at 3.15pm.
The departure from Johor Baru takes place at 3.45pm, and the flight lands at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 4.20pm (Indonesian time).
Kennedy mentioned that Senai International Airport is also connected to Jakarta and Surabaya through AirAsia.
The airport currently facilitates 12 domestic and five international routes.
Additionally, it offers flights to Guangzhou in China, Bangkok in Thailand, and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Rahani Yaakob, the regional manager of Columbia Asia, stated that many middle-income Indonesians are in search of medical treatment and services throughout the region.
“The introduction of the Jakarta-Johor Baru route by the new airline will further enhance Johor’s health tourism,” Rahani said.
Rahani mentioned that all stakeholders including SATSSB, Johor Tourism, hotel associations, and relevant service providers must collaborate to promote the state as a preferred health tourism hub.
She oversees Columbia Asia Hospital Tebrau and Columbia Asia Hospital Iskandar Puteri.
Rahani stated that Columbia Asia will focus on attracting more patients from Indonesia’s Batam Island, Karimun Island, and Tanjung Pinang in the Riau Islands to visit the company’s Tebrau hospital, as the capacity of the Iskandar Puteri facility is currently fully utilized.
