In Kuala Lumpur, Bersatu MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal stated that he would also shift his support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if he receives RM30mil in development funds for his constituency, PN-Bukit Gantang. The funds would be used for purposes such as repairing roads, upgrading suraus, and improving toilet facilities.
Syed Abu emphasized that he was representing the voters in Bukit Gantang and was requesting the allocation as a means of assessing the fairness of the government. He made these statements during a debate at the committee level in Parliament on Thursday (Nov 9) while discussing Budget 2024.
Prior to this, Syed Abu had focused on the need for development in his constituency during a five-minute speech. He highlighted that his rural area lacks a town and has a population composed of farmers, fishermen, and factory workers who need to travel to Taiping town for various needs. He also stressed the need for educational facilities, such as boarding schools and vocational schools, in Bukit Gantang.
Similarly, two other Bersatu MPs, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, have declared their support for Anwar, citing the desire for additional allocations for their respective constituencies. However, they were later suspended from the party for four and six years, respectively.
Additionally, Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik also announced their support for Anwar’s leadership, bringing the total number of Bersatu MPs who have shifted allegiance to four.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, has indicated that more than four Opposition MPs are expected to switch allegiance to Anwar in the near future.
