The Wang Kelian Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) project has received approval from the Federal Government for a total of RM14mil, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced after a closed-door meeting with Perlis government officials.

During the meeting, Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli presented a request for additional allocations for the ICQS project, scanning machines at the land port, and management of the state government. Responding to the urgent request, Anwar approved the RM14mil allocation to address congestion issues at the entry point, as mentioned in his Facebook post on Monday.

Aside from discussing the financial support for the ICQS project, Anwar and the Perlis government officials also explored Perlis’ potential as a tourist destination and the subsidies for basic goods. Anwar emphasized that food prices in the country remain lower compared to tourist destinations in neighboring countries.

Anwar’s short working visit to Kangar began with a warm reception by Mohd Shukri, state government executive councillors, and officials. Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin was also in attendance.

The meeting at the Perlis State Assembly building involved discussions on various projects and initiatives, including the Dataran Kuala Perlis project, the Kuala Perlis Tourist Market, road construction, and stall maintenance in the state.

Following the productive meeting, Anwar made a brief stop at a Ramadan bazaar on Persiaran Wawasan before attending a Madani buka puasa event at Masjid Nurul Huda in Felda Chuping. At the event, he distributed Aidilfitri contributions to the underprivileged.

Overall, the allocation for the Wang Kelian ICQS Project reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing security and efficiency at entry points. Anwar’s visit to Perlis also highlights the ongoing efforts to support economic development and tourism in the state, showcasing its potential as a growing destination.

With continued collaboration between federal and state governments, projects like the ICQS and various infrastructure developments aim to bolster Perlis’ standing as a key player in the region. Anwar’s engagement with local communities and initiatives like the Aidilfitri contributions reinforce the government’s dedication to inclusivity and support for those in need.

As Perlis continues to strive for progress and growth, the RM14mil allocation for the ICQS project signals a positive step towards addressing key challenges and improving efficiency at critical entry points. Anwar’s presence and discussions with state officials further underscore the importance of cooperation and joint efforts towards sustainable development and prosperity in Perlis.
