KUALA LUMPUR: The government wants to address poverty issues in Malaysia, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stated that this effort would primarily involve the Malay and Indian communities, who are largely categorized as lower income.
“When we discuss poverty, I want this issue to be resolved in 2023, which means it will involve the majority of Malays and Indians,” Anwar said in his keynote address during the International Tamil Research Conference at Universiti Malaya on July 22. “I have emphasized that no one in this country should struggle to provide milk for babies or uniforms for schoolchildren. It is our moral responsibility as Malaysians, and as the Prime Minister, it is my duty to address this issue, regardless of the individual’s race or background.”
The Prime Minister called on all Malaysians to distance themselves from racism and reject any efforts to segregate or cause disharmony among the different races in the country.
“We urge more people to send a clear message of condemnation towards those attempting to hijack and alter Malaysia’s course. If we can overcome this challenge, we will build a better Malaysia,” he stated. “I will continue to support this cause regardless of race, and if I continue to receive your support, Alhamdulillah (thank God), but if not, I will accept it. However, I will not sacrifice my principles. This great nation belongs to everyone, and together we will overcome this challenge.”
