KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became the first leader to extend his congratulations to Prabowo Subianto, who was officially declared as the winner of the Indonesian Presidential Election (Pilpres) 2024 on Wednesday (March 20).
In his message to Prabowo, Anwar wished him the best of luck and expressed confidence in his ability to fulfill his responsibilities with excellence for the continued advancement and prosperity of Indonesia.
“I have reached out to the President-Elect of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr. Prabowo Subianto, to offer my congratulations on his victory in the recently concluded Indonesian Presidential Election,” Anwar shared on his Facebook page.
Anwar highlighted the significance of his gesture, noting that he was the first leader to congratulate Prabowo following the official announcement of the election results, emphasizing the strong and special friendship between Malaysia and Indonesia as close, important neighbors.
The prime minister emphasized his and Prabowo’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties across various spheres as neighboring nations and pledged to work closely together in diverse multilateral platforms, particularly within the framework of ASEAN.
On Wednesday, the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) revealed Prabowo-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the official winners of the 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections.
According to the KPU results, Prabowo-Gibran emerged victorious in 36 regions, with their rivals, the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair, winning in the remaining two regions.- Bernama
