NANNING: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has extended invitations to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to visit Malaysia next year in order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to Anwar, various activities are being planned in both Malaysia and China to celebrate the milestone. He stated, “Once again, I extend an invitation to Xi and Li to hold an official visit to Malaysia next year in conjunction with that celebration.”
Anwar, accompanied by several Cabinet ministers and deputies, attended a bilateral meeting with Premier Li at Li Yuan resort in Nanning on Sunday (Sept 17) morning.
Anwar highlighted that the meeting focused on discussing ways to strengthen relationships between ASEAN, China, and Malaysia.
He expressed his gratitude towards the Chinese Premier for hosting a generous lunch where they were able to discuss various issues of mutual interest.
Anwar also discussed bilateral relations and efforts to support Malaysian companies in the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO).
Despite the short duration of his trip, Anwar described it as fruitful. He added, “Thank you to the Chinese government for their hospitality.”
Anwar arrived in Nanning at 3.15am on Sunday (Sept 17) and had a busy itinerary, including attending the 20th CAEXPO and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (Cabis) officiating ceremony at 9am. The bilateral meeting with Premier Li took place at 11.30am, followed by a luncheon at Li Yuan resort.
Afterwards, Anwar returned to the Nanning Marriott Hotel where he witnessed the signing of three memoranda of understanding (MOU) worth RM19.84 billion. He then held separate closed-door meetings with Huawei and the Chinese Communications and Construction Company (CCCC) before concluding the visit with a press conference.
Following the press conference, Anwar departed for Nanning Wuxu International Airport to return to Kuala Lumpur for the ongoing Parliament session on Monday (Sept 17).
