KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has offered his condolences to the families of two Malaysian students who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Lake Tekapo, New Zealand, on Saturday.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Anwar also extended his prayers for the swift recovery of three other Malaysian students who were injured in the incident at Lake Tekapo.

“The Malaysian government, through the High Commission in New Zealand, will be providing the necessary assistance to the victims and their families,” he stated.

According to an earlier statement released by Wisma Putra through the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington, the fatal road accident occurred at 1.45 pm local time on Saturday, involving a total of five Malaysian students.

The three remaining students who were injured have been airlifted to Christchurch Hospital in the South Island for urgent medical treatment.

Furthermore, a spokesperson for the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington has confirmed the identities of the two deceased students as Megat Ashman Aqif Megat Irman Jefni and Wan Nur Adlina Alisa, both students at the University of Canterbury.

The other three injured individuals are identified as Nur Firas Wafiyyah and Lya Issable Walton, who are also students at the same university, along with Muhamad Faris Mohd Fairusham, a student at Victoria University of Wellington.

Despite the tragic event, the Malaysian government is committed to providing support to all those affected by this unfortunate incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
