REMBAU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has questioned why the PAS and Bersatu ministers did not approve funding for improving the living conditions of enforcement personnel serving in the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).
“For years, they have been living in difficult conditions with poorly maintained houses and offices,” said Anwar. “From the files brought by the Home Minister and Defence Minister, it appears that requests for more comfortable facilities have been made every year, but there have been no responses.”
Anwar highlighted that the requests were not for extravagant housing but rather for more comfortable conditions. He expressed disappointment in the lack of attention given to these requests by the previous government, which consisted of PAS and Bersatu ministers.
“During their time, there was supposedly an Islamic government, but they did not prioritize the issues faced by the Malay Muslims under their administration,” Anwar said. “Instead, they only enticed them with slogans and empty promises.”
However, Anwar shared that the allocation for improving Esscom’s facilities was approved a few months ago, and he has personally visited police and Armed Forces housing around the country. He acknowledged the poor conditions and emphasized the responsibility of the government to address them.
“Our government may face financial constraints, but we have approved RM200 million each for the Armed Forces and police to address housing issues,” Anwar stated.
