Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to arrive in New York at 11pm Malaysia time (11am New York time) on Wednesday, September 20, to participate in the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The prime minister, along with his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and other members of the Malaysian delegation, departed from Malaysia to New York on Tuesday, September 19, and their aircraft will land at the Westchester County Airport.
Upon arrival, Malaysian Ambassador to the United States, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ahmad Faisal Muhamad, will be present at the airport to receive the premier.
In a Facebook post prior to their departure from Malaysia, Anwar mentioned that he will be sharing Malaysia’s efforts in addressing the climate crisis and achieving the 2030 Agenda, the country’s roadmap under the Malaysia MADANI framework, as well as various global issues, during the interactions with world leaders at the gathering.
This marks Anwar’s first appearance at the annual meeting, and he is scheduled to deliver Malaysia’s National Statement at the General Debate on Friday, September 22.
The theme for this year’s General Debate is “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all.”
The General Debate commenced on Tuesday and will witness participation from over 150 countries, with their state and government leaders delivering their National Statements at the United Nations headquarters. – BERNAMA
