PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the unity government will address the issues faced by the Indian community in Malaysia. During a meeting with MIC leaders on Wednesday (Aug 2), Anwar stated that the government will continue to develop policies that aim to resolve not only the problems faced by the Indian community but also those faced by all Malaysians.

Recognizing that a significant proportion of Malaysians living in poverty are Malays, Anwar emphasized the need to acknowledge that ethnic Indians constitute the poorest of the poor. He stressed that the government should adopt a Malaysian policy to eradicate poverty that encompasses all Malaysians, regardless of their race.

Anwar also highlighted the importance of addressing the education system and schools in Malaysia. As a result, an additional allocation of RM1.4 billion has been designated for the repair of dilapidated schools across the country, including vernacular schools.

Anwar acknowledged the underrepresentation of Indians in the country and expressed his intention to discuss this matter with his colleagues, including Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of unity among different races in Malaysia to tackle issues related to race, religion, and royalty (3R). He criticized those who exploit sensitive issues such as the “Allah” controversy and propagate claims about the dominance of non-Malays in the country. Anwar referred to such actions as a dangerous game and a threat to the nation’s survival, urging Malaysians to unite and put an end to it to prevent civil strife and conflict.
