MACHANG: An unnamed political leader accused of embezzlement has received a firm warning from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to either return the stolen property or face an investigation. Anwar issued this ultimatum on Sunday during the launch of the unity coalition’s Kelantan machinery known as Jelajah Perpaduan Madani.
Although the leader responsible was not named, Anwar, the head of Pakatan Harapan, stated that this individual had previously stolen from public funds on multiple occasions.
Anwar emphasized the urgency, stating, “I have stressed three times, including tonight, that you must return the money and property you have stolen from the people.”
He further warned, “If not, I will ask the authorities to investigate, including by going to the person’s house, office, and checking their accounts. What was stolen will be taken back.”
Anwar also revealed that he had instructed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate any ministers involved in suspicious share or contract dealings. He clarified that he does not personally lead the investigations, arrests, or punishments, but rather leaves that to the MACC, the Inland Revenue Board, police, and Bank Negara.
In his speech, Anwar stressed the need to put an end to the culture of leaders stealing public wealth and to prevent the misappropriation of funds intended to benefit the people. He commended the rejection of corruption not only by Pakatan Harapan, but also by Barisan Nasional, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, GPS, and GRS.
Furthermore, Anwar highlighted the growing cooperation between PKR and Umno, stating that although he is easy to work with, he cannot be sabotaged.
