An army commando in Melaka, Malaysia has made a startling discovery just 30 meters away from his house. Zakaria Ismail, age 32, stumbled upon a mortar shell while searching for bamboo shoots to cook a dish for his mother-in-law’s birthday celebration. He found the shell in a shrub at around 3pm on Thursday, August 31. Not realizing what it was, Zakaria picked up the shiny object and quickly alerted his father-in-law, who promptly filed a police report.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit confirmed that a 32-year-old woman lodged the report at the Tanjung Minyak police station on the same day. In response, a bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the scene to handle the situation. Ultimately, they recovered a 30cm long shell, which turned out to be non-explosive as it was intended for training purposes.
This unique find was subsequently transported to the state police weapons division for further assessment and appropriate disposal.+
