KUALA LUMPUR: The army will conduct an investigation into the death of a trainee believed to have died from heat stroke during a combat training course at the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) in Kota Tinggi on Sunday (Oct 15).
The Army Headquarters Public Relations Cell released a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the incident and expressing their commitment to improve the current training system. They also mentioned that they are coordinating support and benefits for the family of the late Second Liutenant Emil Syahid Iskandar.
According to the statement, ten trainees collapsed at various locations along the Eksesais Wira Lasak route, an 8km speed marching test, at the Lapang Sasar Utara in Pulada on Oct 13.
The collapsed trainees received initial treatment at the Kota Tinggi Hospital, and three of them were later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sultan Ismail Hospital as they remained unconscious.
However, it was confirmed last night (Oct 15) that Emil Syahid died from heat stroke, and he was buried at the Islamic Cemetery in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang, Selangor.
Two trainees who were treated at the Kota Tinggi Hospital have been discharged, whereas five others are still in the ward, reported to be in stable condition.
Regarding the two trainees who were admitted to the Sultan Ismail Hospital ICU, they have regained consciousness and are gradually recovering. However, the hospital staff still need to carefully monitor their conditions, according to the statement. – Bernama
