KUALA LUMPUR: Between July 27 and Aug 5, a total of 47 investigation papers have been opened and two arrests have been made in connection with offences committed during the state elections. According to Asst Comm A. Skandaguru, the police corporate communications chief, during this period, 1,772 ceramah (public talks) were held with permits, while six were held without permits.
“In Kedah, 426 ceramah were held with permits followed by Terengganu (359), Selangor (352), Kelantan (277), Negri Sembilan(210) and Penang (148),” he stated. “Four ceramah were held without permits in Terengganu while one ceramah each was held without permit in Selangor and Negri Sembilan, respectively.”
In the six states, a total of 891 police reports were lodged, with the highest number of reports (335) being filed in Selangor, followed by Kedah (226), Terengganu (150), Kelantan (92), Negri Sembilan (75), and Penang (13).
“On Friday, 137 police reports were lodged, while 385 ceramah were held with proper permits,” ACP Skandaguru added. He further mentioned that on Friday (Aug 4), six investigation papers were opened for committing mischief and causing damage, theft, defamation, and mischief by fire.
