BUTTERWORTH: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will increase Indian student enrollment in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs to help alleviate poverty. Anwar was informed of this by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who chairs the National TVET Council. Anwar mentioned this during a meet-and-greet session with the Penang Indian community on Sunday.
The Education Ministry, led by Minister Fadhlina Sidek, is addressing the grievances of Chinese and Indian students who were unable to gain admission to matriculation colleges despite having excellent results. Anwar stated that the ministry is working to resolve the matter and emphasized the importance of practicing meritocracy and democratisation in education.
Anwar reassured the public that the government remains committed to respecting the rights of every citizen, despite facing opposition attacks. He denounced propaganda aimed at creating fear among Malays that their rights and power are being compromised. Anwar urged all races to unite and support the government’s efforts to revive the economy, improve education quality, attract investments, and promote unity.
Anwar also expressed his gratitude to the Indian community for their unwavering support during his past struggles and promised to work towards rectifying policies. – Bernama
