KUALA LUMPUR: The Personal Data Protection Department (JPDP) is currently investigating a reported hacking incident involving the Misi Rakyat website. JPDP issued a statement on Friday (July 14) stating that the hacking allegation was brought to their attention when a hacker uploaded the information on the BreachForums website and the Telegram application on July 3 and 4. On July 4, they also received a data breach incident report from Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT), CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM).

In response, JPDP promptly contacted Bangsa Bertauhid Sdn Bhd, the owner of the website, on the same day to seek confirmation of the incident and collect relevant data samples. They instructed the company to conduct an internal investigation and complete a Data Breach Notification form. After receiving the form on July 10, an investigation was initiated. The founder of the Misi Rakyat website was summoned to provide his statement on Thursday (July 13).

JPDP emphasized its cooperation with CSM in carrying out further investigations to determine if there are any breaches under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709). They urged all companies and organizations involved in processing personal data during commercial transactions to adhere to the principles, regulations, and standards outlined in Act 709. Additionally, they reminded entities to exercise caution and implement appropriate measures to prevent data leakage. – Bernama
