A shocking incident occurred in Ipoh as a baby girl tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine after being taken to Taiping Hospital for a check-up. The police reported this unfortunate incident, which has raised concerns for the overall safety and well-being of the child.
According to Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid, the toddler, who is only one year and ten months old, was sent to the hospital by her mother on Tuesday (July 11). The child’s mother took this step because she noticed some unsettling behavior in her daughter, including uncontrollable movements and constant wailing. It was clear that something was amiss, prompting the mother to seek medical help for her little one.
Before the incident occurred, the 22-year-old mother had left her toddler at her grandmother’s house while she quickly went to a nearby sundry shop to buy some items. However, upon returning, she found her child in a distressed state. The toddler was crying nonstop and displaying unusual movements when trying to sleep, leaving the mother deeply concerned.
In light of the situation, the mother swiftly took the child to Taiping Hospital for immediate attention. Shockingly, the medical tests conducted on the toddler revealed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine in her system. The gravity of the situation prompted the medical officer to inform the police, who subsequently launched an investigation into the matter.
ACP Razlam stated that the police have opened an investigation paper under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act. Additionally, the child’s mother has been arrested after testing positive for methamphetamine. The police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with the investigations. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance in safeguarding children and ensuring their well-being.
