A caregiver at a childcare centre in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras, was arrested by the police yesterday on suspicion of abusing a two-year-old girl under her care, according to Cheras district police Chief ACP Zam Halim Jamaluddin.
The 28-year-old local woman allegedly caused injuries to the victim’s head and hands.
Two videos purporting to show the incident went viral on Tuesday (Sept 5).
In response to a police report lodged by the victim’s father, the woman voluntarily surrendered herself at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters and was subsequently arrested at 1pm yesterday. A statement by ACP Zam Halim confirmed this.
The suspect has been detained for 24 hours under Section 31 (10(a) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with child abuse. She was released on police bail thereafter.
