THE Bagan Lalang@Sepang Beach Festival is returning after three years.
Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) president Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said it first started in 2016 as an annual festival.
However, it will now be held biennially, starting this year.
“This is to give us more time to organise better programmes and activities as well as develop the infrastructure,” he said.
Abd Hamid said the council spent RM125,000 to upgrade the pedestrian walkway and another RM40,000 to install an audio system to be used during emergencies.
He said an information centre was also built so visitors would get to know MPSepang’s programmes and events as well as learn more about tourism products in the area.
“We expect 10,000 people to attend the event which will have beach football and volleyball, treasure hunt, tug-of-war, martial arts show and competition, cultural performances, children’s fashion show and lucky draw.”
Abd Hamid said Pantai Bagan Lalang was one of the best beaches in Selangor, apart from Pantai Morib and Pantai Bagan Nakhoda Omar.
“When the tide is low, beach-goers can walk up to 400m into the sea.
“It is also a seafood hub with restaurants here known for fresh seafood and grilled fish specialities.
“Recreational activities like kite flying, picnics and camping are popular too,” he said.
The festival will take place from Aug 19 (7.30am to 11pm) to Aug 20 (8am to 5pm). — By VIJENTHI NAIR
