KUANTAN: A bank officer in Kuantan fell victim to a fraudulent investment scheme, resulting in a loss of RM102,700. The incident occurred when the 32-year-old man came across an intriguing advertisement on Facebook by a company called “Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd.” The advertisement promised free investment books. According to Pahang police chief Datuk Yahaya Othman, the victim was asked to provide his personal information by clicking on a WhatsApp link. Unfortunately, upon clicking the link, he was redirected to a fake stock trade system.
“The suspect lured the victim into investing in a particular platform and assured him a 30% profit after investing RM100,000,” stated Yahaya Othman. Tempted by the offer, the victim made 12 transactions to six different accounts over three weeks. However, he eventually realized that he had fallen for a scam and reported the incident to the Kuantan district police headquarters on Monday.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which pertains to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. It serves as a reminder to the public to exercise caution and be vigilant when encountering investment opportunities that appear too good to be true.
