Hundreds of lower-income students receive funding for education through partnership program

HUNDREDS of outstanding students from the lower income (B40) group received funding for their education through a programme in partnership with Bank Rakyat Foundation (YBR) and the Penampang District Education Office, Sabah.

The Early Study Assistance programme was awarded to 334 students to provide financial assistance and prepare essential educational tools ahead of their semester.

The award ceremony was held at SMK Bahang in Penampang and witnessed by Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang.

“I would like to thank YBR for offering their support towards those who need it most, especially for these children whose parents cannot afford to pay for their education.

“This is a start to helping those in need, and it proves that the education sector can work hand-in-hand with private organisations to achieve our educational goals,” said Jannie.

Until January this year, YBR had sponsored more than 6,543 students, spending RM180mil to enable them to continue their academic journey at higher education institutions.

A student at Cyberjaya College Kota Kinabalu Norazlin Amit @ James, 20, who received this aid said it was helpful in reducing his financial burden.

Another recipient Adriano Gatino, 18, said the YBR funding had contributed towards an education that could potentially improve life for his family.

YBR chairman Datuk Philip Benedict Lasimbang said at the ceremony that the aid was also offered to matriculation students in both public and private educational institutions.

“The cash handouts given to these students with excellent results is a mark of appreciation and care for those who have worked hard to perform well academically,” he said.
