KUALA PILAH: A candidate in the state elections, Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir, broke his leg in a car accident just two days into campaigning. The incident occurred on the Jalan Pasir Besar-Palong stretch in Negri Sembilan when his vehicle skidded and crashed into a ditch at 3.25am yesterday. The candidate’s driver, Muhammad Khairul Ahnaf Baharom, is currently in critical condition.

Mohd Zaidy explained that he decided to drive himself as his driver was tired, following a meeting with the Barisan machinery in Bahau. He recalled that things were initially fine when he reached the Pasir Besar intersection, but the vehicle skidded and landed in a ditch. He apologized to voters in the Jeram Padang constituency for not being able to meet with them in person.

Mohd Zaidy stated that the campaign would continue virtually for now, but he intended to return to the ground in a few days, possibly requiring a wheelchair to meet with voters. He is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Jempol, while his driver is being treated at Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah.

Tampin OCPD Supt Anuwal Wahab revealed that Mohd Zaidy was driving a 4WD at the time of the accident. He urged any eyewitnesses to contact the police to assist in related investigations under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act.

Visiting their fellow candidate at Hospital Jempol, representatives from Barisan and Pakatan Harapan expressed their support. While Mohd Zaidy’s condition is stable, Negri Sembilan Umno chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias acknowledged that aggressive campaigning would be difficult for him at this time. However, he emphasized that virtual campaigning was still an option. DAP’s Teo Kok Seong, Pakatan’s candidate in Bahau, reported that Mohd Zaidy appeared to be in high spirits and had requested assistance in securing victory for both Jeram Padang and all seats contested by parties in the unity government.
