ALOR SETAR: Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, the Barisan Nasional candidate, believes there is unfinished business in Kedah’s Pedu state seat. He stated that since the 14th General Election (GE14), the coalition has had no representation at the state government level to continue improving the people’s welfare. During a walkabout at Kampung Kubang Kenyeng on Monday (July 31), the Kedah Barisan chairman expressed the desire for a representative who can address the needs of the local residents, particularly in areas that can enhance their daily lives. Mahdzir emphasized the importance of improving children’s education and infrastructure. He posed the question of where the residents can turn for assistance when they need help with their children’s education or when orphans excel in school and require support to further their studies. Mahdzir highlighted the lack of continuity in such services and requested the voters in Pedu to give him the opportunity to reconnect with them and restore what they have lost.
While Mahdzir won the Padang Terap parliamentary seat in GE14, both Pedu and Kuala Nerang, the state constituencies under it, went to PAS. In GE15, Barisan lost its presence in the area as Mahdzir was defeated by PAS’ Nurul Amin Hamid with a majority of 10,959 votes. Mahdzir acknowledged that the people have begun realizing the difference in services provided by the two parties and emphasized the importance of voting based on service rather than sentiment. He urged voters to assess the benefits they can receive from the candidate they choose.
