PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and other leaders from the Barisan Nasional party are putting in their best efforts to secure a victory for the unity government in the upcoming Pelangai state seat by-elections.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Oct 4), the president of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), Dr Wee, revealed that he and other leaders from Barisan Nasional and the unity government had joined forces to show support for Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, who is the Barisan candidate for the Pelangai state by-election.
Accompanying Dr Wee were former MCA president Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai, former MCA deputy president Tan Sri Lim Ah Lek, Pahang MCA chairman Datuk Sri Hoh Khai Mun, and Bentong MCA division chairman Datuk Kang Meng Fuat.
Also present during the campaign at a temple in Kampung Baru Manchis on Wednesday were MIC vice-presidents Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay and Datuk T. Murugiah, as well as Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who is also the president of the Progressive Democratic Party.
The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate demise of Umno assemblyman and Pahang exco member Datuk Seri Johari Harun, who lost his life in the tragic Elmina plane crash in Selangor on Aug 1.
The Pelangai state by-election will witness a three-cornered fight between Amizar, Kasim Samat from Perikatan Nasional, and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni.
Polling day has been scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, Oct 7.
