IPOH: The Batu Gajah District Council is being called upon to provide clear information regarding their planned assessment tax revaluation exercise, according to a former Perak Youth Assembly (PYA) representative.
Wong Chin Ho, a former PYA representative for Malim Nawar, stated that numerous concerned locals in the district have voiced their complaints as they were taken aback by the exercise.
“The district council should clarify their intentions to the people,” he emphasized in a statement.
“Given the ongoing economic downturn and the depreciation of the ringgit, if there are plans to raise the rate, I hope the district council will reconsider. Such an increase will have a distressing impact on the individuals and businesses, which would further affect the local economy,” he added.
Wong specified that a letter detailing the reevaluation exercise was distributed to the residents in the district, including Tanjung Tualang, which falls under the Malim Nawar state constituency and Kampar parliamentary constituency, on June 27.
“It was mentioned that the exercise will take place from September 1 of this year until August 31 of the following year,” he stated.
“Moreover, the district council has enlisted the services of a consultancy firm to assist with the exercise,” he further noted.
Wong mentioned that the district residents were also required to complete and send back an owner’s return form within a two-week timeframe.
“Many residents who face language barriers are unsure how to handle the situation and have expressed their inability to seek help from district councillors to fill out the form,” he said.
“I urge Kampar MP Chong Zhemin, Malim Nawar assemblyman V. Shasha, and the relevant district councillors to convene and explain the exercise to the residents,” he concluded.
