KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, the chairman of the Alliance for a Safe Community, is urging more Malaysians to actively participate in crime prevention activities within their communities. He emphasizes that crime is a major concern, as evidenced by the daily occurrences and the trauma experienced by victims.
The seriousness of the matter is further emphasized by the fact that there isn’t a single day without a crime being committed in the community. Lee acknowledges that many crimes and acts of violence are carried out by young criminals, making it a challenging time for the police force. He calls for relentless efforts from the police to fight and prevent crime, using all means at their disposal.
Lee believes that the increasing public concern highlights the need for more initiatives to tackle crime, and Malaysians should actively participate in crime-prevention programs organized by residents’ associations, trade organizations, or NGOs. He stresses the importance of not taking safety and security for granted.
In order to achieve a higher crime-solving rate, Lee suggests that the police should improve their intelligence and information gathering to target offenders more effectively. He also highlights the importance of public perception, stating that frequent media reports about crime do not help to improve it. Instead, efforts should be made to build positive public perception and foster trust in the police.
Lee emphasizes that crime affects everyone, regardless of race or gender. Therefore, he calls on all Malaysians to stay focused and determined in their fight against crime. He emphasizes the importance of crime prevention awareness and being vigilant of our surroundings. By not providing opportunities for criminals, the public can contribute to maintaining safety and security.
