During the rainy season, the public has been advised to remain cautious as this is the time when crocodiles are most active, according to a Facebook post by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) on Thursday (Dec 28).
The SFC stated that the number of crocodiles tends to increase from November to March, which is their breeding season, thus making them more active and potentially bringing them closer to residential areas.
As a precaution, the SFC recommended that livestock be kept away from water sources and that sightings of crocodiles be reported promptly.
The organization also emphasized the importance of responsible waste disposal to avoid attracting crocodiles, as the improper disposal of trash and debris in rivers can draw them closer to residential areas.
It was further noted that continuous rain can result in higher water levels, making it easier for crocodiles to move further onto land, while animals and livestock near water sources can particularly attract them during their breeding season.
