KUALA TERENGGANU: Search and rescue (SAR) personnel have discovered a sling bag believed to belong to Karim Abdullah, 39, one of the victims involved in the Jeram Air Putih water surge incident. The bag, which was found by firemen searching for the last victim, contained money and important documents. The discovery took place on a sandbank two kilometers away from the incident site on Monday afternoon, as confirmed by Kemaman police chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan.
Within the black bag, a black Michael Kors wallet was found, containing Karim’s MyKad, MyKid, and bank cards. In addition, the bag also held RM1,279 in cash, a marriage certificate card, a watch, a mobile phone, a necklace, and a school name tag with the name “FATIN” inscribed on it. Supt Hanyan further explained that these items would be handed over to the victim’s next of kin.
The tragic incident occurred on July 2, during a picnic at Jeram Air Putih, when 10 individuals were swept away by the water. The missing individuals have been identified as Karim, his wife Azizah Eiyi, 40, and their children Muhammad Zulqarnain Haikal, 11; Putri Nurerina Natasya, 10; Muhammad Haziq Ziqree, six; Putri Aryana Umaira, four; Putri Alleya Maisarah, 16; Putri Nor Fatin, 14, and Putri Balqis Izzati Abdul Rahman, 18. Sadly, Putri Balqis Izzati’s fiance, Muhammad Fikri Saliman, 24, also lost his life in the tragedy.
As of now, the body of Putri Nor Fatin remains missing. The family of eight was laid to rest last week at the Felda Lepar Hilir 3 Muslim cemetery in Pahang, while Muhammad Fikri was buried at the Kampung Parit Kuda Muslim cemetery in Batu Pahat, Johor, on Saturday. — Bernama
