KUALA LUMPUR: Bernama and Xinhua, Malaysia’s national news agencies, have launched the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China with an enhancement of media cooperation. Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai expressed enthusiasm about the early start to the celebrations next year.
Wong stated that the renewal of the agreement between Bernama and Xinhua is more than just an extension of the wire service. It also opens doors for seamless content exchange that aligns with the evolution into broadcast and digital media. He hopes Xinhua will use Bernama’s content to showcase investment opportunities in Malaysia and highlight the achievements of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The agreement was signed by Bernama editor-in-chief Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Xinhua’s Asia-Pacific regional bureau director Wang Jinfu, witnessed by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, and other officials from the Communications Ministry and the Chinese Embassy.
Wong highlighted that the collaboration between Bernama and Xinhua began in 1985 and has since evolved into a beacon of journalistic excellence. He emphasized Bernama’s recognition of the importance of providing balanced and unbiased international news coverage.
He continued to express that Xinhua offers a truthful narrative on the Chinese government and helps Bernama to offer credible and diverse news coverage.
Wang, representing Xinhua, expressed his gladness of coming to Malaysia in the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia. He also mentioned Xinhua’s willingness to collaborate with Malaysian media outlets in various fields and to promote a positive atmosphere for the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
He highlighted Xinhua’s efforts to keep pace with the ever-changing media development trends and its willingness to expand cooperation in new media services with Bernama and other Malaysian outlets. They are eager to increase communication with Malaysian media professionals through bilateral and multilateral platforms to enhance mutual understanding and promote deeper cooperation.
