According to Umno supreme council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Bersatu is relying on the support of PAS in the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections. He stated that this is evident from the presence of PAS leaders, including its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who are campaigning for Perikatan Nasional candidates. Nur Jazlan believes that this indicates Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the Perikatan chairman, has lost his influence in Johor.
Nur Jazlan also mentioned that even if Perikatan relies on leaders from Johor Bersatu, it wouldn’t benefit the coalition as Bersatu is not qualified to lead the campaign. Instead, Muhyiddin is depending on the popularity of Hadi and Sanusi to ensure Perikatan’s victory in the by-elections. This explains why Perikatan members refer to the campaign as the “green wave” despite their coalition flag being blue. Nur Jazlan criticized Bersatu for not having any achievements despite participating in six state elections.
