PETALING JAYA: Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has refuted claims that additional Bersatu MPs are planning to announce their support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Bersatu Youth leader insisted that there was no truth to these allegations and that no ultimatum had been given by the MPs, stating they would back Anwar if Perikatan Nasional could not demonstrate its ability to change the government in the near future.
“Such a scenario did not occur as I have personally met with them (the MPs) from Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional,” Wan Ahmad Fayhsal was quoted as saying by online news portals on Sunday (Jan 28).
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who also serves as the Machang MP, announced his intention to recommend that the party’s supreme council pursue legal action against the six Bersatu MPs who have already pledged their support for Anwar, potentially resulting in their removal from their seats.
Bersatu’s Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz indicated during a press conference on Friday (Jan 26) that the anticipated wave of support for Anwar, expected to be announced prior to the commencement of the upcoming Parliament session on Feb 26, would primarily involve Bersatu MPs from Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and Melaka.
He cited financial concerns as a significant factor, noting that every MP had pledged to safeguard the interests of their constituents, yet the party had failed to provide any assistance for over a year.
Thus far, the Bersatu MPs who have publicly declared their support for Anwar are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz, Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
