PUTRAJAYA: Bersatu Youth’s attempt to shift the blame from its party’s president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s controversial speech to Suara Keadilan, was an attempt to deflect from the real issue, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said Muhyiddin’s speech during the Nenggiri by-election campaigning period was broadcast live on several social media channels.

“It is an attempt to deflect. They are panicking because of the statement that was made, and they are trying to shift the blame,” he said during a weekly post-Cabinet meeting press conference here on Wednesday (Aug 21).

Fahmi was responding to claims by Bersatu Youth chief Wan Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who lodged a police report against PKR’s Suara Keadilan.

On Aug 15, during his Nenggiri by-election campaign speech, Muhyiddin allegedly touched on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues.

His speech received the attention of Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who expressed his anger and disappointment and called for police to take firm action against the former prime minister.

Fahmi, who is also the PKR information chief, said the video of the speech was broadcast live on several other political parties’ social media platforms.

“I have seen the live session myself when the speech was made.

“If you want to put blame, then you should blame the PAS party organ (Harakah) for broadcasting the session live.

“I believe that Wan Fayhsal is now panicking because the Bersatu president is once again the source of controversy,” he added.

On Tuesday (Aug 20), Muhyiddin, who is the Perikatan Nasional chairman, has defended his statements as factual and said it is not intended to insult the monarchy and does not contain seditious elements.
