KUALA LUMPUR: Senator Datuk Razali Idris, who serves as the Kijal assemblyman, has been brought to trial in the Sessions Court for allegedly delivering a speech that is seditious in nature at the launch of the Kemaman by-election machinery on Nov 10.
Razali, 57, who is also the Bersatu Information chief, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him before judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini on Friday (Nov 24).
He expressed his readiness to stand trial, saying, “I am ready to go on trial.”
The charge against him alleges that he made derogatory comments, claiming that the government was controlling the decisions of the judiciary, at Padang Astaka Chukai, Kemaman in Terengganu between 9.30pm and 11.30pm on the night in question.
The charge, under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 and punishable under Section 4(1) of the same Act, carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama
