Authorities in Ipoh have identified several locations where the 30 escapees from the Bidor Immigration Department detention centre are believed to be hiding out. Perak Immigration director Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik stated that these fugitives are thought to be seeking shelter within their own community in specific districts.
Meor Hezbullah mentioned that they are closely monitoring these locations and there is a possibility that the escapees may be hiding in districts like Kinta, Kuala Kangsar, or Taiping. The escape of these individuals occurred on February 1, with 131 illegal immigrants breaking out from the male block of the detention depot, consisting of 115 Rohingya, 15 Myanmar nationals, and one Bangladeshi national.
Tragically, two of the escapees lost their lives in road accidents. Despite the escape, Meor Hezbullah expressed confidence that the fugitives are still within the state of Perak, with no information suggesting that they have fled to other states.
The director also mentioned that the detention centre is still operational, even though it currently does not house any detainees. He assured the public that officers and personnel are still on duty at the centre, with repairs ongoing to fix the damage caused by the breakout.
Shifting focus to a different topic, Meor Hezbullah highlighted that 350 foreigners in Perak have signed up for the Migrant Repatriation Programme, which commenced nationwide on March 1. These individuals hail from various countries such as Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Singapore.
