BENTONG: Zaffarul Nazri Harmeni, despite being blind, is still able to vote. Accompanied by his siblings, the 49-year-old man queued up at the polling centre in SMK Seri Pelangai. “My father has been driving us here for every election season since I became blind 24 years ago,” Zaffarul said.
Zaffarul added that the voting process for visually impaired individuals differs slightly. “Those with disabilities like me have to fill out Form 10, which is the Announcement of Trusted Person form. This is to name the person who will mark the ballot paper on behalf of the disabled person,” he explained. Zaffarul’s father was the one who marked his ballot paper. Zaffarul expressed his belief that individuals with disabilities should fulfill their duties as voters.
According to Zaffarul, the voting process only took approximately 10 minutes and was not at all difficult. He also shared that he lost his eyesight due to a chemical explosion at a previous workplace in 1999. Despite undergoing numerous treatments, including surgery in Singapore, he has accepted his fate and remains positive.
