The upcoming Pelangai by-election, set for Oct 7, has prompted Pahang Barisan Nasional to submit six names for consideration as potential candidates. Sinar Harian reports that the list has been sent to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for further review.
One of the names on the list is Bentong Umno division committee member Datuk Jamaludin Buyong, a 60-year-old resident of Bentong and the former Acting Managing Director of TRIpic Berhad.
Other individuals being considered are Bentong Umno acting leader, Datuk Seri Mohamad Zaini Salleh; Bentong Umno division vice leader, Datuk Hazraf Ali Hasan; and Bentong Umno division Women’s vice leader, Fadliyatun Ahmad.
Additonal candidates on the list include two former Bentong Umno division youth leaders, Datuk Ekmal Hamid Zakaria and Datuk Khairuddin Yaakob.
The announcement of the Barisan candidates who will compete in the Pelangai state assembly by-election will take place on Sept 17.
Nomination day is scheduled for Sept 23, while early voting will occur on Oct 3.
The Pelangai seat, which represents a state constituency in Pahang, became vacant following the passing of its assemblyman, Datuk Johari Harun, on Aug 17.
Datuk Johari Harun was a Pahang exco member and one of the 10 individuals who tragically lost their lives in a plane crash in Selangor.
