SANDAKAN: Barisan Nasional’s proven track record makes it the best choice for the people, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said that the proof was Barisan’s achievements in various projects and aid initiatives that benefited the people.

He said Barisan’s focus went beyond transformation to ensure the quality of life for Sabahans, enabling them to work, live, and play better.

Dr Wee mentioned that the Pan Borneo Highway project, implemented during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s time, is an example of how improving infrastructure and enhancing connectivity by linking remote areas to main roads can provide more job opportunities.

Other initiatives that benefited the people include the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) initiative, which was later rebranded multiple times as Bantuan Sara Hidup, BPR Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat, Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia, and now Tunai Rahmah.

“Although some would call it ‘dedak’ (bribes), the cash distribution is actually a social safety net for the welfare of the people,” he said at the Sabah Barisan convention here on Sunday (July 21).

Acknowledging the challenges faced when Sabah, Sarawak, and Malaya formed Malaysia in 1963, Wee noted that uplifting the people’s socioeconomic status fairly and equitably took work.

“Despite these challenges, Barisan has proven its ability to bring development to the nation.”

Wee, however, said that Barisan would learn from previous lessons and plan its strategies to win and dominate more state and parliamentary seats.

Barisan chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Kadir, treasurer Datuk Seri Johari Ghani, Sabah Barisan chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah president Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, were also present.
