JERTIH: On Monday (Nov 6), the body of a baby girl was discovered in the toilet of Rumah Awam Pengkalan Nyireh surau. According to Supt Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the Besut district police chief, residents noticed a foul odor coming from one of the toilets at 10am and upon investigating, found a baby wrapped in a clear plastic bag inside a red pail. The Surau Committee members were immediately informed and the police were subsequently alerted.
Abdul Rozak mentioned that forensic officers from the Terengganu contingent police headquarters (IPK) examined the body and found no visible physical injuries. He added that based on the body’s condition, it is believed the baby had been deceased for over 48 hours. The body was sent to the Besut Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem investigation. At present, the police have yet to identify the suspect. The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which deals with the concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body. This information was reported by Bernama.
