The discovery of a man’s body in a river near the Perak-Pahang state border was reported on Saturday (Sept 30) at 3.40pm.

DSP Azri Ramli, the Cameron Highlands district police chief, stated that the rough terrain in the area prevented the immediate retrieval of the body, which will now require an airlift operation.

Authorities have arranged for a helicopter from the Air Operations Force to arrive at 9am on Sunday (Oct 1) for the body recovery mission.

Azri mentioned that the body would undergo identification and an autopsy procedure at Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital in Cameron Highlands.

To aid in the investigation, Azri urged anyone with information to contact the operations room at 05-491 5999 or the nearest police station.

He also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information on social media platforms.

Earlier on the same day, Azri revealed that the search and rescue operation (SAR) for an Indian tourist who went missing on Sept 22 while climbing Gunung Jasar, in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, has been expanded beyond the Perak border.

On the sixth day of the search mission, a team of 101 officers and members from various agencies and non-governmental organisations were involved.

Nandan Suresh Nadkarni, aged 44, was reported missing after embarking on the climb on Sept 22.

The victim had checked into the Hikers Sleep Port Guest House in Tanah Rata on Sept 19 and was scheduled to check out on Sept 24.

CCTV footage from the Tanah Rata area revealed that the victim left the hotel alone on Sept 22 to hike up the 10th trail of Gunung Jasar. – Bernama
