According to Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir, a total of 28 foreigners, including an 11-year-old boy, were detained in a crackdown on shophouses in Skudai.

The raid, known as Ops Sapu, took place at around 12:50 am on Wednesday (Jan 3) following a tip-off from the public.

Several premises suspected of housing foreigners without valid permits or passes were targeted in the operation.

An official statement revealed that 28 illegal immigrants from Myanmar, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, including seven women, 20 men, and a boy aged between 11 and 56, were found in the shophouses.

These individuals were reportedly renting small rooms and living spaces within the premises at monthly rates ranging from RM450 to RM750.

They are now facing charges under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 115) for failing to present valid travel documents, as well as Section 15(1)(c) of the same act for overstaying.

Baharuddin also called on the public to report any information they may have on illegal immigrants, emphasizing that the department will take stringent measures against such individuals.
