SEREMBAN: A 13-year-old boy filed a false police report accusing himself of being kidnapped because he was afraid of facing his parents’ wrath after coming home late from school.
The Nilai police chief, Supt Abdul Malik Hasim, stated that the boy made the report at the Lenggeng station on Wednesday (Oct 25) at 9:26 pm.
“The boy alleged that while he was waiting at a school bus stop at around 2:15 pm, a white car approached him,” said Abdul Malik.
“According to him, a man emerged from the vehicle and forcefully took him inside,” he added, explaining that the alleged kidnapper tied the boy’s hands and placed a gag on him.
The boy claimed that the kidnapper then transported him to an unfamiliar place, but he managed to escape.
Abdul Malik revealed that a subsequent police investigation uncovered the falsehood in the boy’s account.
“It turned out that the boy was actually playing games at his friend’s house and lost track of time.
“Out of fear of his father’s reprimand, he decided to fabricate the abduction story,” he elaborated.
Individuals who file false reports could face charges under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, offenders may be sentenced to a maximum of six months in prison or fined up to RM2,000, or both.
