A 48-year-old sales consultant in Kuala Lumpur experienced complications after receiving silicone injections for breast augmentation from an unauthorized practitioner. The woman, known as Chan, underwent the procedure 20 years ago after a beautician recommended it during a facial appointment. She paid RM5,000 for the silicone injection.

Shortly after the procedure, Chan began to notice lumps in her breasts and experienced severe pain that disrupted her sleep. In 2022, she sought medical help at a private hospital, where a mammogram and ultrasound initially showed no abnormalities. However, an MRI revealed that the lumps were caused by the silicone injection.

Two plastic surgeons recommended that Chan either have her breasts removed or live with the condition for the rest of her life. Feeling hopeless, she opted to undergo surgery in Vietnam in January at a cost of RM25,000 to remove the silicone. Fortunately, the procedure was successful, and Chan survived the ordeal.

Chan shared her story to raise awareness and caution other women considering cosmetic procedures, particularly breast augmentation. She emphasized the importance of seeking treatment from licensed specialists rather than un authorized practitioners to avoid similar complications.

During a press conference organized by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, Chan urged women to prioritize their health when undergoing beauty procedures. Chong warned against trusting unlicensed individuals for cosmetic surgeries, highlighting the risks and negative impacts on patients’ health.

He recounted cases where women were lured by advertisements for beauty surgeries on social media, resulting in severe pain and complications, such as silicone injection-related issues. Chong advised individuals seeking beauty surgeries to consult reputable doctors and specialists to ensure their safety and well-being.

It is crucial to prioritize health and safety when considering cosmetic procedures, as the consequences of choosing unauthorized practitioners can be severe. Chong emphasized the importance of making informed decisions and avoiding risks to prevent long-term health issues.

Chan’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for women seeking cosmetic enhancements, highlighting the necessity of conducting thorough research and seeking professional advice before undergoing any procedures. By sharing her story, she hopes to prevent others from facing similar challenges and encourage women to prioritize their health above beauty ideals.

Ultimately, the key message is to prioritize licensed specialists and reputable professionals for cosmetic procedures to minimize risks and ensure positive outcomes for patients. By being vigilant and informed, individuals can safeguard their well-being and avoid unnecessary complications associated with unlicensed practitioners in the beauty industry.
